Great Sermon by April Simons

I love Pastor Gary Simons but it is always a special treat to hear April speak. She's practical, funny, and honest to a fault. This morning she shared secrets to a successful marriage from the scriptures.

It wasn't so much the marriage tips as it was her frank conversation about Halloween, Spirits, Mediums, Witches, and the Occult. In a nutshell, she just simply said that God's word spoke out against Christians associating themselves with these things. I would tell the story she shared about her mother but, so many people read these postings that I'm afraid it would get back to her :-) In fact, she also brought up Harry Potter!

Yes, I am against celebrating Halloween. No, I'm not against letting kids dress up (in appropriate costumes) and having a great time. Why should the devil have all the fun? Fall Festivals and similar events are a great alternative to celebrating Halloween. Kids love having fun. Church should be a safe, fun, and exciting place for kids.

While driving up to drop Shelly off, I noticed that the Christmas lights were being laid out on the ground for the big drive-through show. Now there's a holiday that the devil is trying to steal but it rightly belongs to Christians. The only way it will stay that way is if Christians continue to teach their children the true meaning of Christmas. I can't wait to take my kids to see the lights...I can't wait to see all of the lights! What a great time of year!
